Obituary of Vera Sturkie

WEST COLUMBIA: Memorial service for Vera D. Sturkie, 83, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Westside Holiness Church, officiated by Reverend J. E. Jewel Jeffcoat. Interment will be private in Olympia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Westside Holiness Church, P.O. Box 3215, West Columbia, SC 29171. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family. Mrs. Sturkie passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013. Born in Aiken County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Colie Gleaton and Lizzie Chavis Gleaton. She was a member of Westside Holiness Church. Survivors include: her husband, Billy Ray Sturkie of West Columbia; daughter, Sharon L. Yancey (Joe) of Columbia; son, Steven R. Sturkie of West Columbia; sisters, Melba Knox of Gaston, Jeanette Sharpe of Orangeburg, Shirley Hutto of Salley and Ann Dykes of Barnwell; brothers, Floyd Gleaton of Neeses, Marvin Gleaton of Salley, Willis Gleaton of North and Mortimo Gleaton of Aiken; two grandsons, Samuel Yancey and Daniel Yancey. Mrs. Sturkie was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Tony Gleaton and sister, Callie Mae Willison.
