Obituary of Nancy R. Merrill

COLUMBIA: Nancy R. Merrill, beloved wife of Paul Larrabee, entered into eternal life, Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Born Sunday, April 12, 1936, in Easley, SC, she was the daughter of the late David Furman and Frances Ruth (Acker) Merrill. Mrs. Merrill worked as an office administrator in Greenville, SC and later moved to Columbia where she was employed with Jim Younts Insurance Agency, and later she retired from Richland School District 1 in that same capacity. An accomplished artist, during her time here in Columbia, Mrs. Merrill worked as a photographer out of her home and also with ETV. She enjoyed painting, jewelry beading, piano and knitting. A devoted member of First Christian Church, Columbia, she served as a Deacon, choir member, and on various committees there. Mrs. Merrill was an EMT with ERI for several years, as well as a Girl Scout Leader, and chaperone for the USC Band. She was a member of the Palmetto Purlers and the Trenholm Road Art Guild. She also attended classes at the Shepherd Center for art and writing. In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Priscilla Corley Hill and her husband John, and Sallie Corley Phillips; four stepchildren; grandson, John Sessions Hill, III; five step grandchildren and three step grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Saturday, March 23, 2013, in First Christian Church, 2062 N. Beltline Blvd., Columbia, SC 29204, with Reverend Torrie Osgood officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Leland McElveen, Kimberly Dewitt, as well as to the staff at SCOA for the many years of compassionate care and attention they shared with Mrs. Merrill.
