Obituary of Harold Swygert

WEST COLUMBIA: A memorial service for Harold Barrett Swygert, Jr., 86, will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church in West Columbia. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. Mr. Swygert, son of the late Harold Barrett Swygert, Sr. and the late Kathleen Sox Swygert, passed away at home on March 24, 2013. He was a proud alumnus of the Clemson University Class of 1949. Mr. Swygert retired as a registered professional engineer after practicing mechanical engineering for 50 years. He was the founder of Swygert & Associates Consulting Engineers. He was a 50-year member of American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, and was awarded a national award of merit and named a Fellow within that organization. He was also a member of American Society of Professional Engineers where he served as president of the Columbia chapter for a term. Mr. Swygert served on the Midlands Technical College Commission and served as chairman for a term. He was a long-time member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran in West Columbia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church 1000 B Ave, West Columbia, SC 29169. He was a loving husband who is survived by his wife of 62 years, Catherine Carr Swygert and three sons H. Barrett Swygert III (wife Russellette Swygert), Steven Carr Swygert, and Todd Franklin Swygert (wife Pat Swygert), one granddaughter, Allyson Morgan Swygert, and one step-granddaughter Julie White McDowell. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Swygert, father, Harold Barrett Swygert, Sr. and sister, Betty Swygert Turnbull.
