Obituary of Inge Falckenhagen Cockrell

Inge Falckenhagen Cockrell, 83, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, of Columbia, SC, died peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2013. She was born on April 8, 1929 in Kiel, Germany. In 1949 Inge became a WWII bride, leaving her native country to begin a new life in America. She was welcomed with open arms into her husband's family, and she in turn adopted them as her own. Inge was a talented, self-taught artist who possessed a constant yearning for knowledge. She was a member of the Trenholm Artists Guild since 1992 and loved being a part of the Wednesday painting group, where she formed many close friendships. Inge was also a long time member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Columbia. Inge was predeceased by her husband, Heber Cockrell, and her parents, Walter and Ellie Falckenhagen. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Fred Garrick; a son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Susan Cockrell; a grandson, Justin Garrick, his wife Crystal, and great grandson, Connor Justin Garrick. A visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Greenlawn Funeral Home in Columbia, SC. Services celebrating the life of Inge Falckenhagen Cockrell will follow at 12:00 p.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park. A reception will be given at the family home afterwards. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the McCall Hospice House of Greenville in Inge's memory.
