Obituary of Ruth Lillian Caviness

COLUMBIA: Ruth Lillian (Adrian) Caviness, 98, of Columbia entered into God's Kingdom, Monday, April 1, 2013 at NHC Healthcare, Parklane. Born Thursday, January 28, 1915 in Sterling, VA, she was a daughter of the late Eugene S. and Mary (Hummer) Adrian. A member of Spring Valley Presbyterian Church for more than 30 years, Ruth received an Honorary Life Award from the Presbyterian Women. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, was quick with a smile and never met a stranger. She was an avid Bridge player, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Edward Caviness, Sr., a son, John Edward Caviness, Jr., as well as 12 siblings. She is survived by two sons, Tom (Jo Ann), and Doug (Tonja), both of Columbia; six grandchildren, Chris, Jack, Sydney, Tommy, Brett and Alison; and three great grandchildren, B. T., Lacey and Charlotte Ruth; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial service which will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Saturday, April 6, 2013, in Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, 125 Sparkleberry Lane, Columbia, SC 29223, with The Rev. Dr. Jack Heinsohn, Rev. Dr. Lamar Potts and Rev. Ruth Roberts officiating. A private interment service will be held prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Spring Valley Presbyterian Church Presbyterian Women.
