Obituary of Thomas Carter Burton

COLUMBIA: A memorial service celebrating the life of Thomas Carter Burton, 80, of Columbia will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dennis Banks officiating. On-line condolences may be sent to www.greenlawn-columbia.com. Mr. Burton departed this earthly life on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. He was born in Tomac, Maryland to the late Charles Floyd Burton and Ethel Grace Carter Burton. Mr. Burton was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia. He also retired as a Battalion Chief at the City of Columbia Fire Department. Mr. Burton was predeceased by his wife, Bobbie Jacquelyn "Jackie" Sawyer Burton. Surviving are his five daughters, Deonne Gunderson (John), Diane Williamson, Denise Burton, Sarah Towns (Paul), and Grace Burton; a son, Thomas Carter Burton, Jr.; a brother, William Thomas Burton; 20 grandchildren,11 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
