Obituary of Clarence Reusch

WEST COLUMBIA: Clarence F. Reusch, 89, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 14, 2013, after an illness of several months. Born on April 21, 1923, in Dayton Ohio, he was the son of Clarence and Helen Triber Reusch. He graduated from Charminade High School and later, Ohio State. He was a retired engineer from NCR and Williamson Corp. Clarence was a devoted member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, a member of Lion Club of Hillsboro Eagles, VFW Post 8738, American Legion Post 6 and AMVETS and Military History Club. Clarence served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific on LST 120 at Guadalcanal and left after Tiyaga. He served aboard the U.S.S. Philadelphia. He was a volunteer for many service organizations and he was never too busy to help his family, friends and neighbors. Surviving are his wife Evelyn, children, Jamie, Chris, David (Robin), Shawn and Patrick (Jean) Reusch; his stepchildren, Michael Burnett (Michelle), Linda Shull, Marjorie Williams (Derwin), Dee Dee Matthews (Joel), and dear nephew, Glenn Crawford and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many thanks are given to those who cared for him, especially Amedisys Hospice and Assisting Hands, also the loving care he was given by his step family and friends. Special thanks to a granddaughter, Christina West who gave up much of her time to care for her grandfather and a grandson, Cory, who lovingly helped care for his grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by sisters, Joann Heyne and Pat Lowry, brother, Bud Reusch and sons, Jeffery Reusch and Clarence (Skip) Reusch. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia.
