Obituary of Jesse Alver Cox

COLUMBIA: On Thursday, May 2, 2013 the Lord called his beloved son, Jesse Alver Cox to be with him in heaven where there is no more pain and suffering. Jesse was born in Conway, SC on March 7, 1931 to the late Hiram Baker Cox and Lessie Ann Register. He was educated in the Horry County Public Schools and South Carolina Area Trade School (State Barber College). He served in the infantry of The Armed Forces of The United States in the Korean Conflict as a Corporal from March 1951 to February 1953. Jesse spent his working life as a Master Barber and later as a self-employed Clemson Certified Pest Control Operator. He was an avid fisher and gardener, providing the family and friends with fresh fish, and vegetables from his garden. He never met a stranger and could stand his ground with any story telling group. Jesse was also a member at Shandon Baptist Church. Jesse is survived by his beloved wife, Jeannette Russ Cox; a precious daughter, Pamela Elkins (Tom) and a precious son, Russell A. Cox (Kathy); four wonderful grandchildren, Edward A. Elkins, Hunter T. Elkins, Harmon R. Cox and Baker B. Cox; two sisters, Imogene Turner and Vergie Cox; a sister-in-law, Ellen Cox; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly. Jesse was predeceased by three brothers, John, Kermit, and Shelton Cox A funeral service celebrating the life of Jesse A. Cox will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013 in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Barry Gray and Reverend Robert Grant officiating. Military honors and interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00p.m. until the hour of the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
