Obituary of Albert Summers

GASTON: Funeral service for Albert Horace Summers, Jr., 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Jack Gibson. Interment will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Friday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. There will also be a viewing from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 2865 US 178, North, SC 29112. Mr. Summers passed away Wednesday, May 08, 2013. Born in Bamberg, SC, he was a son of the late Albert Horace Summers, Sr., and Eliza Rebecca Summers. He served his country in the U.S. Army retiring as Master Sergeant, where he received the Bronze Star. He served in Korea, Thailand and 3 tours in Vietnam. Mr. Summers was a Past Worshipful Master with the Masonic Lodge #382 and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sandy Run Chapter #230. He retired from the U.S. Post Office where he worked as a postal carrier; and he worked for Williams Construction as a cabinet and trim professional carpenter. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Mr. Summers traveled the world with his late wife of 40 years, Julia H. Summers. He was an avid NASCAR fan; he was owner and crew chief for Alson Racing Team and co-owner of Summers Construction. He was a special loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be truly missed by all his friends and family. Survivors include: daughter, Theresa S. McIndoe (George H. McIndoe, Jr.) of Lexington; son, Albert Gregory "Rock" Summers (Andrea M. Summers) of Lexington; sisters, Patricia Thomas of Inman and Linda Johnston of Acworth, GA; three grandchildren, Michael Stephen McIndoe (Laura L. McIndoe), Emily Marie Summers and Rebecca Claire Summers; five great grandchildren, Melannie, Michael Stephen, II, Samantha, MacKenzie and Matthew McIndoe; also several close friends and extended family. Mr. Summers was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Julia; sister, Hazel Rebecca DeWitt and brother, William Daniel Summers.
