Obituary of Alfred Lee Ott

St. Matthews—Funeral services for Alfred Lee "Big Al" Ott, 81, of St. Matthews, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Gethsemane Baptist Church in St. Matthews. Officiating will be Reverend Henry Cooper and Reverend Robert Frederick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Mr. Ott, loving husband of Joyce Geddings Ott, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013. Born in St. Matthews, he was the son of the late Charlie Bratton Ott and Mary Arrene Inabinet Ott. He was an active member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and a Private First Class, Infantry Division in the Army National Guard, earning a Marksman Badge. Mr. Ott retired from Gregory Electric in Columbia with 34 years of loyal service. Big Al was the winner of Gully Horns Springs Big Cat Fish Tournament for 2 years. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a great and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. Surviving in addition to his wife of 57 years, Joyce Gedding Ott; sons, Lee Ott (Jan) and Toby Dean Ott (Amy L.); his beloved granddaughter, Amanada Jacqulin Ott; sister, Marene Ott Vernon (Ernie); brother, Everett Ott (Rose). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Marie Ott; five brothers and two sisters.
