Obituary of Maxine Wood

WEST COLUMBIA—A graveside service for Maxine Wood, 85, of West Columbia, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Woodridge Memorial Park Gazebo. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. Mrs. Wood, widow of the late Alfred R. Wood, Jr., passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013. Born in Smoaks, she was the daughter of the late Marion Smoak and Reba Fender Smoak. She was an area resident since 1974 formerly of Smoaks and retired from Providence Hospital where she worked as an Administrative Assistant. She was an All-State Basketball Player in high school and loved gardening. Surviving are her daughter, Brenda Smoak of Walterboro; son, Richard O. Wood of West Columbia; grandchildren, Kelly Poole (Frank), Stacey Wingate (Jody), Marty Smoak and Aimee Seay (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Renae Rupp, Jeremy Miller, Zachary and Noah Poole, Trey and Joel Wingate and Owen and Corley Seay; sister, Martha Nell Adkins of Robbinsville, NC and Helen Beach of Smoaks. She was preceded in death by her brother, Mendel Smoak.
