Obituary of David Milledge Kleckley

Funeral services for Dr. David Milledge Kleckley, 65, of Lexington will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 119 N. Church Street, Lexington SC 29072. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Patrick W. Riddle and Rev. Dr. Dennis R. Bolton. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 119 N. Church Street Lexington SC 29072. Born in Columbia, SC on November 24, 1947, he was the son of the late Clayton B. Kleckley and Esther Hagood Kleckley. He was a graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School and obtained his associates Degree from Gordon Military College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Georgia, a Master of Education and Specialist in Education Degrees from Georgia State University and a Doctor of Education from the University of South Carolina. He worked for over 30 years in Dekalb County, Georgia, teaching children with special needs. He retired in 2005. He was a longtime member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, in Lexington, where he taught the Men's Sunday School Class. He played the trumpet and the violin. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and garden. Surviving are his daughter, Rebecca Caroline Kleckley; siblings:, Dr. Clay Robin Kleckley; Nancy Amelia Kleckley-Hughey and her husband, David S. Hughey, and Dr. Gretchen Naomi Kleckley; grandchildren, Tyler Samuel Jones and Tess Ebilee Jones ; special cousin Emily Garvin Baughman who was like a sister; his special friend, Sue Willis and his beloved pets, Diane, Emaline and Pedro.
