Obituary of Captain Jimmie Gresham

CAYCE—Funeral services for Captain Jimmie Gresham, 83, of Cayce will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at Broadacres Baptist Church, 2350 Taylor Road, Cayce. Officiating will be Pastor William Geddings. Burial will follow in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with military honors. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. in the church sanctuary prior to the service. Memorial may be made in Jimmie's memory to the Harvest Hope Food Bank, 2220 Shop Road, Columbia, SC 29201. Mr. Gresham, beloved husband of Diane Daniels Gresham, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. Born in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late Jessie L. Gresham and Nellie Harris Gresham. He was a member of Broadacres Baptist Church. Mr. Gresham retired from the United State Army having served as part of the Occupation Force in post WWII Japan, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was one of the pioneers of Records Management with the SC Department of Archives and History. He worked as a benefits counselor with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Surviving in addition to his wife, Diane Gresham of Cayce; son, Lawrence J. Gresham (Deborah) of Columbia; daughters, Eva E. Bradley (Randall) of Cayce and June Deen (William) of Charleston; sons, Brian D. Griffith (Catherine) of Lake Wylie and Ian Lawrence Gresham of Cayce; grandchildren, Rebekah Lynn Brooks (Dexter) of Boston, MA, Deborah Leigh Ready of Columbia, Johnathan Robert Gresham of Columbia, Lauren Griffith, William Griffith and Grace Griffith all of Lake Wylie and Julia Anderson-Beemer of Charleston; brother, Robert Harris Gresham of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Lee and sister, Charlotte Haire.
