Obituary of LTC Paul Ralph Whitman

WEST COLUMBIA—A memorial service for LTC Paul Ralph Whitman, US Army (Ret.), 83, of West Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Saluda River Baptist Church. Rev. Charles Westbrook will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service in the sanctuary. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256. Mr. Whitman, beloved husband of Nancy K. Whitman, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013. Born in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Morris Raymond Whitman and Clara Barton Whitman. He was a career Army Aviator and a Veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. A loving husband, father and friend to all, he was a man of great humor who blessed two families with his love and laughter. A servant of God, he made a lifetime of memories for those fortunate to survive him. Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Nancy K. Whitman of West Columbia, SC; children, Jeffrey P. Whitman (Linda) of Selinsgrove, PA, Bryan G. Whitman (Karen) of Washington, DC, Paula Brubaker (Terry) of Mechanicsburg, PA, Alan King (Vivian) of Gaston, SC, Reggie King (Sue) of Charlotte, NC and Joey King (Jennifer) of Barnwell, SC; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Whitman of Binghamton, NY. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 plus years, Arlene Ruth Morris, four brothers and two sisters.
