Obituary of Loyd Don Freeman

WEST COLUMBIA—A graveside service with military honors for Loyd Don Freeman, 81, of West Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2013 at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. Jeffrey Winsted will officiate. Mr. Freeman, beloved husband of Neva Hogue Freeman, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013. Born in Seymour, Texas, he was the son of the late Homer Freeman and Gracie Gale Farr. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, and was a proud member of the 4123D Strategic Wing (Strategic Air Command). Don was a longtime member and minister of the church of Christ, where he assisted in the start-up of congregations in Roanoke and Blackstone, VA. Don was a Loss Control Engineer for the Virginia Highway Dept. and became a National Board Boiler Inspector with Royal Insurance Co. Mr. Freeman will also be remembered for his love of family, talents in leather crafting and love of hunting and fishing. Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 52 years, Neva Hogue Freeman of West Columbia; daughters, Lydia Freeman of West Columbia, Miriam Freeman Oravec and husband, Anthony Oravec, III of Irmo; sister-in-law, Donna Hogue of Amarillo, TX; granddaughter, Isabel Oravec as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
