Obituary of Aliene Gantt Chancey

COLUMBIA—A memorial service for Aliene Gantt Chancey, 87, of Columbia, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Pastor Terry Wilder will officiate. Mrs. Chancey passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013. Born in Aiken County, she was a daughter of the late George Festus Gantt and Leola Poole Gantt. She was a lifetime area resident and a member of Earlewood Baptist Church. Aliene was a graduate of Springfield High School. She worked many years at Granby Mills as a weaver and retired at age 66. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who enjoyed gardening and fishing. She will be forever missed. Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn D. Utter of Poughquag, NY; son, Harold E. Williams of Columbia, SC; 5 grandchildren, Lori Utter, Raymond Utter, Annette Trevino, Paul E. Williams and Chris D. Williams; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Williams of Columbia, Thelma Stewart of Columbia and Pat Hennesse (Joe) of Kentucky; brothers, James Gantt of Columbia and Charles Gantt (Dot) of Columbia along with many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Gantt.
