Obituary of Margie S. Dial

Columbia—Margie (Smarr) McLaurin Dial, 94, of Columbia, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Providence Hospital. Born Friday, November 1, 1918, in Bullock Creek, SC (York County) she was a daughter of the late Fred Lamar and Aline (Kirkpatrick) Smarr. Margie had worked with the Columbia, SC Police Department - SC Probation Parole Board, University of Alabama under Bear Bryant and retired from the University of Miami. During WWII, she worked on the line assembling aircraft in Miami, FL, for the War Department. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dial was preceded in death by her first husband, John L. McLaurin (US Navy); second husband L.B. Dial; two sons, Leonard Harry McLaurin and John L. McLaurin; and sister, Elizabeth "Becky" Smarr Royster. She is survived by her son, Ross McLaurin (Brenda), of Columbia, three grandchildren, John L. McLaurin, II, Sandra Lee Spigner (Ral), and Tammie Lee Liles (Gregg); and two great grandchildren, Macie Lee and Hunter Spigner. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 1:00 P.M., in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with Pastors Craig Wilkes and David Lauten officiating. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, Missions Fund, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, SC 29201, in her memory.
