Obituary of Walter Pruett

CAYCE—Funeral services for Walter Pruett, 82, of Cayce, will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 5, 2013 at Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Hwy in Cayce. Burial will take place in Southland Memorial Garden. Honorary pallbearers will be Senior Men's Class Sunday Class. The family will greet friends following the service in Solomon's Porch. The viewing will be held from 12 noon until time of service. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia will be assisting the family. Mr. Pruett, beloved husband for 60 years, of the late Dottie Chapman Pruett, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. Born in Eastman, GA, he was a son of the late Alexander E. Pruett and Alice Dora Giddens Pruett. Walter retired after 35 years as owner and operator of Blackwell Insurance Agency. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Senior Men's Sunday School Class and a Deacon. He was also active with Meals on Wheels. He attended USC and received an Associates Degree from Palmer Business College. He loved fishing and yard work. Surviving are his daughter, Susan Backman (Tommy) of Gaston; sons, Randall L. Pruett (Marguerite) of Elgin and Russell S. Pruett (Leslie) of Cayce; four grandchildren, Robyn Kennedy (Matt), Kelly Goff (Shawn), Dillon Backman and Mark Pruett; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Katherine and Jacob Goff, Jackson and Ryan Kennedy; step-grandchildren, Meredith Torre, Shannon Fulmer, Diana Murphy, Laura Jenkins; step-great-grandchildren, Anna-Marie, Bella and Ted Fulmer, Caitlin and Valerie Jenkins. He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.
