Obituary of Kay Layton Smyrl

CAYCE—A memorial service for Kay Layton Smyrl, 63, of Cayce, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The family will greet friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of SC, 508 Hampton St., Ste. 200, Columbia, SC 29201 in Kay's honor. Mrs. Smyrl passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of Almena Truluck Layton and the late Melvin Glen Layton. She was a lifetime area resident and for over twenty years she worked as a layout artist for JB Whites. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, her friends and her beloved dog, Ginger. She also enjoyed cooking, the beach, art, and decorating. She connected with God through nature. Kay was an upbeat and positive individual who loved making people happy, which brought her great joy; she was a loving mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. Surviving are her son, Thomas R. Smyrl III; daughter Mary Beth and son-in-law Michael Stalnaker; five beautiful grandchildren, Gabrielle Smyrl and Lainey, Danny, Lauren and Asher Stalnaker; brothers, Joe Layton and Lon Layton; nieces and nephews, Jeff Layton, Allison Simmonds, Laura Studley, Melanie Prewitt, Amy Eubanks and Andy Layton and their spouses as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brother Danny Travis Layton and sister Jane Layton Gibson with whom she is now reunited in the glorious afterlife.
