Obituary of Charlton Burl Barfield

WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Charlton Burl Barfield, 89, of West Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2013 at Congaree Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Rev. John White. Burial will follow in Olympia Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Mr. Barfield passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013. He was born in Columbia, and was a son of the late Jesse Burl Barfield and Marie Sandifer. He served as a lst Class Boatswains mate, retiring from the United States Navy after 20 years of faithful service. After retiring, he worked for the South Carolina Savings & Loan League. He believed in taking care of those he loved; he was a born nurturer. He was a quiet gentle man who was the rock of his family. Surviving are sister-in-law, Rebecca Barfield of West Columbia; nieces and nephews, Sandra Jeffers (Buddy) and Pam Grigsby (Darrell) of Elgin, Eric Barfield (Vickie) of Troy, NC, Ben Barfield (Julie) of Lexington, Susan Netherton and Kevin Barfield (Julie) of West Columbia, and a large and loving extended family.
