Obituary of Iona C. Simpson

Iona C. Simpson Hopkins, SC Iona Cook Simpson, 82, of Hopkins, SC, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Palmetto Health Baptist. Born Saturday, April 25, 1931 in Wagner, SC, she was a daughter of the late Claudius D., Sr., and Mittie Ophelia (Garvin) Cook. She was a member of Pine Lakes Baptist Church, and retired from the Moncrief Army Community Hospital, Fort Jackson, SC, where she had been a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room for 28 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace L. Simpson; sister, Velma Livingston; brother, Claudius DeWitt Cook, Jr.; and a granddaughter, Crystal Lee Hall. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda A. Simpson; son, Terry D. Simpson; sisters, Florence Simpson and Anita Gerwin; brother, Lyman Harvey Cook; two grandchildren, Terry Jennifer Simpson and Tristin; and four great grandchildren, Christina, Kayla and Cayden Hall and Payton Sestokus. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 30, 2013, in Temple of Faith Bibleway Church, 2850 Congaree Road, Gadsden, SC 29052, with Bishop Theodore Myers officiating.
