Obituary of G.L. Buckles

G. L. "Pete" Buckles COLUMBIA—A graveside service for G. L. "Pete" Buckles, 75, of Columbia, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Officiating will be Dr. George Crow. The family will receive friends at the graveside or residence following the service. Pete passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013. Born in Kingstree, he was the son of the late Ernest E. Buckles and Ozellia Baylor Buckles. He graduated from Kingstree High School and attended Clemson University and Newberry College; he played in college football and was an avid hunter. He sold heavy equipment for 32 years and then had an appraisal and adjusting business. Pete is survived by his wife, Ilene Anderson Buckles, his daughter, Dana B. Peele and his adored grandson, Miller J. Peele; sisters, Louise Huffstetter of Gaffney and Joyce McLaughlin (Bernard) of Charleston; brother, C.D. Buckles (Sara) of Hartsville. He was predeceased by brothers, Ernest, Harold and Jack. He was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
