Obituary of James F. Jumper

LEXINGTON--James (Jim) F. Jumper III, husband of Bonnie Bolin Jumper, passed away July 29, 2013 at his home in Lexington. Jim was born July 22, 1950, in Springfield, SC. Jim is survived by two daughters, Becky Jumper Williams (Tommy Pope), of Cayce and Christie Jumper Tatro (Tommy Tatro) of Golden, CO; three grandchildren, Ana and Christopher Tatro of Golden, CO and Eva Pope of Cayce; a sister, Edna Hayne Jumper of Springfield; brothers, Scott Jumper of Asheville, NC and Marshall Jumper (Jackie Jones Jumper) of Lexington; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim grew up in the small town of Springfield in Orangeburg County, the son of the late Frank and Edna Maude Jumper. He was a student leader and multi-sport athlete at Springfield High School, class of 1969. Jim began his undergraduate studies at North Greenville Junior College. While attending NGJC, Jim married his childhood sweetheart, Bonnie Bolin. He earned his B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina in 1972. While a college student Jim began working at the South Carolina Budget and Control Board. His first job after graduation from college would end up being his only job as he began a career of over thirty years at the Federal Land Bank, later known as AgFirst. Jim pursued his love of athletics by becoming a high school football official. His high school officiating career would land him in the South Carolina Football Officials Association's Hall of Fame, class of 2000. He was honored to officiate the 1991 North-South All Star game as well as the 1999 Shrine Bowl. Jim's football officiating career became a passion as he advanced from high school to small college to the Southeastern Conference. Jim was an avid Gamecock fan attending baseball and football games even throughout his illness. Not only was Jim a kind and caring husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he felt a duty to serve his community and state. He filled this need through the Jaycee organization. He led the Cayce-West Columbia Jaycees as president in addition to serving as South Carolina state president in 1982. The family would like to thank the caring staff of United Hospice for their kindness. Jim and his family fought a courageous effort against Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be made to CurePSP.org or Jaycee Camp Hope, c/o SC Jaycees Foundation, 323 Gentry Run, Greenwood, SC 29646.
