Obituary of Col. Mildred E. Sites

A memorial service celebrating the life and legacy of Lt. Col Mildred E. Sites (U.S. Army, Ret.), 95, of White Rock, SC will be held at 2:00p.m., Thursday, August 8, 2013 in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with full military honors and inurnment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jacobs Lutheran Church, 844 Columbia Avenue, Chapin, SC 29036; Newberry College, Newberry, SC 29109 for the Sites Scholarship Fund or to Lutheran Hospice, 1505 Blanding Street, Columbia, SC 29201 in Mildred's memory. On-line condolences may be sent to www.Greenlawn-Columbia.com. Lt. Col. Sites departed this earthly life on, Thursday, August 1, 2013. She was born on February 19, 1918 to the late Joseph Sidney Sites and Claudia Amick Sites. Mildred was a graduate of the Medical College of S.C., School of Nursing and after 33 years of dedicated service she retired from the United States Army with the distinguished rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Lt. Col. Sites was predeceased by her sisters, Ellis Meetze and Ethel Derrick and her brothers, Edward Sites and Herbert Sites. Those left to cherish her precious memories are her sisters, Lois Hull, Mary Ruth Shealy, Cecil Fermanis, and Doris Kleckley; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends that will miss her dearly. Special appreciation is extended to the Heritage at Lowman Home and Lutheran Hospice for their compassionate care during the illness of Lt. Col. Sites.
