Obituary of Jamenell Doris Phillips

PELION—A memorial service for Jamenell Doris Phillips, 88, of Pelion, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 9, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Tony Rowell. The family will greet friends following the service in the chapel. Mrs. Jamenell Doris Phillips, beloved wife of the late Nelson Lee Phillips, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013. Born in Cornelia, GA, she was a daughter of the late James Monroe Collins and Sallie Carolyn Spencer Collins. She was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church. Jamenell was a graduate of Cornelia High School, Cornelia, Ga, in 1941 went to school for fashion design and was known for making clothes for her whole family. She was always busy, making sure her children were happy, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, High School Marching Band, Mother Advisor for West Columbia # 36 Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Jamenell was also a Worthy Matron of New Brookland #104 Order of the Eastern Star, Arabi Temple #141, Daughters of the Nile and a President of the Saluda River Women's Club. Socializing with others was second nature while she traveled with Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club, meeting people in all 50 states, 6 of the 7 provinces of Canada, Mexico, and Europe. Jamenell loved to go ride to see the holiday decorations, the leaves changing color in the mountains, and the special things you can only find in a town you haven't visited before. Surviving are her son, James "Jim" David Phillips (Carrie) of Marshville, NC; daughter, Paula Lynn Phillips Coleman of Pelion; grandchildren, Lisa Lynn Phillips of Fairfax, VA, Justin Michael Coleman of West Columbia, Megan Elizabeth Coleman of Pelion, April Lyn Helms (Chris) of Marshville, NC and David Lee Phillips of Indian Trail, NC; great-grandchildren, Aimee Paige Phillips of Fairfax, VA and Jonathan Spencer Coleman of Pelion. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Robert Collins and a sister, Carolyn Tennie Collins Gillham.
