Obituary of Georgie Lee Culbreth

WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Georgie Lee Culbreth, 82, of West Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 at City of Hope Worship Center, 1403 D. Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29169. Officiating will be Bishop Neal Nolan and Bishop Joseph Grice. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. Mrs. Culbreth, beloved wife of 43 years to the late William D. Culbreth, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. Born in Hartsville, she was a daughter of the late George Griggs and Bessie Edwards Griggs. She was a lifetime area resident and a charter member of the West Columbia Church of God, now City of Hope Worship Center. Mrs. Culbreth and her husband were the owners and operators of Culbreth's Janitorial Service from 1970 until her retirement in 1994. Surviving are her sons, Major (Ret) USA Michael Culbreth (Patricia) and John Culbreth; daughter, Nancy Chavis (Ronnie); granddaughter, Blair Culbreth; grandsons, Alex Culbreth, Andy Chavis, Austin Culbreth and Nick Culbreth; sister, Dorothy Griggs Berry Johnson; step-sister, Peggy Genes Gandy. She was preceded in death by her son, Phillip Culbreth; brothers, JC Gandy, Hugh Gandy, Cecil Gandy and Evert Gandy.
