Obituary of Charles Rembert Powell

SOUTH CONGAREE—Charles Rembert Powell, Jr. 77, of South Congaree, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Charles Rembert Powell and Estelle May Powell. He was a lifetime area resident and was a painter and musician, whose music is enjoyed by many. He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly Shull Powell and brother, Tommy Powell. Surviving are his son, Alan Powell (Sara) of Bakersville, NC; daughters, Donna Powell McLees and Jennie Powell Koon both of South Congaree; five grandchildren, Allison P. Jackson (John Robert) of Lexington, Amy Powell of Columbia, Richard Travis McLees (LeAnn) of Lexington, Jamie Barrs of St. Matthews and Heather L. Hutto (Frankie) of Lexington; also survived by seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Joanne Witherspoon and Frances Erwin; former wife, Gloria Rebecca Powell; and special friend, Evelyn Nichols. There will be a memorial gathering Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 11 AM to 3 PM at the family home at 3115 McTavish Avenue, South Congaree, SC, 29172.
