Obituary of Lou Ella Ott

SWANSEA—Funeral services for Lou Ella Ott, 88, of Swansea, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Gaston. Rev. Larry Harrison will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Prayer Sunday School Class. The family will greet friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Gaston, 121 Oakey Springs Drive, Gaston, SC 29053. Mrs. Ott died peacefully at her home with her husband of 69 years at her side on Sunday, August 11, 2013. Born in Lexington County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Sturkie and Elva Smith Dowd. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister whose life was dedicated to her family and her church. She was a life time member of First Baptist Church of Gaston, where she taught Sunday School. Surviving in addition to her husband, Hasford Ott of Swansea; children, Robert H. Ott (Joan) of Swansea, Brenda Bauer (Bill) of Columbia, Susan Smith (Richard) of West Columbia and Allen B. Ott (Sherrell) of Swansea; granddaughter, Laura Hoffman Willingham (Joby) of Irmo; she is also survived by five sisters and four brothers. She was preceded in death by one sister.
