Obituary of Gloria Rebecca Powell

SOUTH CONGAREE- Gloria Rebecca Powell, 74, of South Congaree, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2013. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Alvin Stuart and Jennie Irene Martin Slater. Gloria was a lifetime area resident and was known for her generous and loving heart. She contributed to numerous charities, loved to read, and do crossword puzzles. Gloria was also a champion scrabble player. Surviving are her daughters, Donna Powell McLees and Jennie Powell Koon and fiancée (Gary) both of South Congaree; brother, Jonathan Slater (Shirley) of North Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Heather Leigh Hutto (Frankie), Travis McLees (LeAnn), and Jamie Leigh Barrs (Mikey); great-grandchildren, Jayna, Jaleigh, Dawson, Jennaleigh, and Brantley. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Charles Powell who passed away on August 10, 2013; sisters, Edwina Kelly and Charlotte Legrand; and brother, Dwight Slater all of Columbia. The family will hold a dual memorial celebration of life for Mr. Charles and Ms. Gloria Powell Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 11 AM to 3 PM at the family home at 3115 McTavish Avenue, South Congaree, SC, 29172.
