Obituary of Reverend Philip Glenn Rabon

CAYCE—Funeral services for Reverend Philip Glenn Rabon, 60, of Cayce, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Broadacres Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Ken Elligson, Rev. Bill McCoy, and BrotThher John Hurt. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Memorials may be made to Broadacres Baptist Church, 2350 Taylor Road, Cayce, SC 29033 or American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. Mr. Rabon, beloved husband of 39 years to Sherrie Rabon, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2013. Born in Greer, he was a son of the late Rev. Matthew Murdic Rabon and Elizabeth DeBruhl Rabon. He was a longtime Cayce resident and a member of Broadacres Baptist Church. A graduate of Garrett High School and USC, he also earned a Masters of Divinity from Southeastern Theological Seminary at Wake Forest. He served in the United States Army from 1973-1980. He was former Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist Church and Airport Baptist Church. He was a Chaplain at Lexington and Baptist Medical Centers. He also worked with Lexington Mental Health and Richland County Sheriff's Victims Assistance. Surviving in addition to his loving wife, Sherrie Rabon of Cayce; daughter, Mandie Rabon of Cayce and son, Philip G. Rabon II (Rachel) of West Columbia; sister, Mary Elligson (Ken) of Snowhill, MD; brother, Matthew Rabon of Landrum; grandchildren, Benjamin & Phoebe Rabon and Hannah, Isabella & Rebekah Rabon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tim Rabon.
