Obituary of Henry L. Sharpe

CAYCE—Funeral services for Henry L. "Sonny" Sharpe, 79, of Cayce, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Gantt Street Baptist Church, 2121 Gantt St., Cayce, SC 29033 followed by burial with military honors in Celestial Memorial Gardens. Reverend Gene Rowell will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Mr. Sharpe, beloved husband of Patricia B. Sharpe, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2013. Born in Red Bank, Sonny was a son of the late Eugene Haskell Sharpe, Sr. and Maude Annie Bell Taylor Sharpe. He was a lifelong area resident and a member for over 20 years of Gantt Street Baptist Church and a member of American Legion Post #90. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War and was retired from North Brothers Insulation Company after 25 years of service. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother; Sonny most enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a very giving and selfless person who was always available to help family and friends at any time. Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years, Patricia B. Sharpe of Cayce; daughters, Debbie Greer (Mike) of Lexington and Tina Stroud (Danny) of Leesville; son, Joey Sharpe (Barbara) of Lexington; 6 grandchildren, Stephanie Clark (John), Dale Greer (Stephanie), Daniel Oberlies, Rachel McGuirt (Vance), Kinsey and Jake Sharpe; 4 great-grandchildren, Madison & Shane Clark, Allison Greer and D.J. Moore; sisters, Geneva Shull, Nancy Parker. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jean McPherson and 3 brothers, Eugene Sharpe, Jr., Clarence Sharpe and Thomas D. Sharpe, Sr. The family would like to thank the staff of Lexington Oncology and the Lexington Medical Center 8th floor nursing staff for their attentive care.
