Obituary of Maurice Holt

Columbia—Maurice DeLeon Holt, Jr., 70, of Columbia, passed away peacefully at home Monday, September 16, 2013. Born Wednesday, July 14, 1943 in Columbia he was the son of the late Maurice D., and Alice (McKee) Holt, Sr. Mr. Holt was a graduate of Columbia High School Class of 1961. He earned his degree from the University of South Carolina and had retired as the Deputy Tax Assessor for Richland County after 45 years of dedicated service. He was a devoted Gamecock Fan, a loving father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He is survived by his wife Virginia (Steadman) Holt, with whom he shared a union of more than 47 years; daughter, Jennifer H. Hornsby (Dale); granddaughter, Haley E. O'Donnell; sister, Barbara H. Harper (Josef); and his loving kitty, Muffin. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, September, 21, 2013 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with Pastor Phillip Blankenship officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Providence Family Practice, especially Dr. Frampton Henderson, Jr., and Josie Joseph. They would also like to thank the staff at Amedisys Hospice, especially Gwen Busby, Katy Corley, Lisa Cureton and Jackie Steck for the comfort, compassion and caring they all shared with Mr. Holt during his illness.
