Obituary of Richard Frank Collum

Richard Frank "Jack" Collum, 91, of Columbia passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday evening, September 24, 2013. He was born on December 7, 1921 on Jones Cross Road off of 39 in Aiken County, SC to the late Andrew Jay and Ellar Collum. Mr. Collum was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He also served on the committee that built the new church building. Mr. Collum was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps in which he served during WWII as a flight engineer. "Jack" as he was affectionately called by his family and friends is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alma W. Collum; his daughter, Connie C. Elmer and son-in-law, Mike Elmer; daughter, Deborah C. Jordan and son-in-law, Kirby Jordan; grandchildren, Jennifer L.E. Mondelli, Michael P. Elmer, Jr., and Jonathan A. Elmer; seven great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly. A funeral service celebrating the life of Richard Frank "Jack" Collum will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013 in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of the service on Friday at Greenlawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Calvary Baptist Church or to the American Diabetes Association in "Jack's" memory.
