Obituary of Ellen Jean Armstead

Ellen Jean Armstead, 83, of Columbia, entered into rest Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Agape Hospice House, Columbia. Born Saturday, February 1, 1930 in Hamilton County, TN, she was a daughter of the late Leonard G. and Willie Odessa (Dial) Masdon. Mrs. Armstead had been in retail grocery sales most of her life, working for the A&P, PX at Fort McPherson, Georgia, and retired from Kroger's on Decker Blvd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of more than 38 years, Staff Sgt. Roy E. Armstead, Sr. She is survived by two sons, Roy E. Armstead, Jr. (Dottie), and Ronald E. Armstead (Karen); three grandchildren, Rebecca Harper, Renee Roberts and Christopher Armstead; two sisters; one brother; and eight great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Sunday, October 6, 2013 in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with Pastor David Sturgeon officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia SC 29209.
