Obituary of Joseph Walter Meehan

EASTOVER-Graveside service for Joseph Walter Meehan, 83, of Eastover, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2013 at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The Reverend Msgr. Richard Harris will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Greenlawn Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia, SC 29212 or to an animal shelter of one's choice. Mr. Meehan passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013. Born in Sewickley, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Marie Meehan. Mr. Meehan proudly served his country in the United States Navy where he was a Military Policeman. He was a Police Officer in the Town of Palm Beach then later as a Deputy Sheriff with Palm Beach County, Florida. In the mid 1990's he moved to Eastover where he resided until his death. He was a member of the American Model Railroad Association of Columbia. Mr. Meehan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving are his daughters, Melinda Doan (Rory) of Eastover and Michelle Dutton of Fort White, FL; son, Michael Meehan, Jr. (Nancy) of Blythewood; two grandchildren, Michael Meehan, Jr. and Betty Jo Dutton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Betty Lou Meehan.
