Obituary of Cecil Charles Mann

Cecil Charles Mann, Sr., 90 of Jenkinsville, SC, entered into rest, Saturday, October 19, 2013 at his home. Born Wednesday, April 11, 1923 in Thomasville, GA he was a son of the late John L. and Henrietta (Blow) Mann. Mr. Mann was well known in the 40's for his boxing and even received Gold Gloves. He joined the Army and was later sent overseas to Italy, where he was injured and sent home. The injury shattered his boxing dreams. Mr. Mann then went to work for SCE&G where he worked for more than 33 years. During his time with SCE&G he helped start one of the first bowling leagues for the company and also coordinated square dances at the company well known Pine Island Clubhouse. He umpired fast pitch softball games for church leagues as well as the police leagues, and was a life member of the VFW Post 641 and extremely proud of it. Up until 1999 Mr. Mann was a member of Rosewood Baptist Church when he decided it was time to be closer to his family. He later joined Little River Baptist Church, Jenkinsville, where he attended until his wife's, Mrs. Daisy (Campbell) Mann, health deteriorated. The couple shared a union of more than 70½ years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his two best friends, his two boys, Ronnie and Charles, Jr., daughter in law, Barbara, and grandson Stephen. Mr. Mann also enjoyed watching his granddaughter Deborah train horses, especially his favorite horse, Cat. He was a joy to be around and will be sadly missed by those who knew him. In addition to his parents and loving wife, he was preceded in death by all of his siblings, five nephews and one niece. Mr. Mann is survived by his two sons, Charles Mann (Peggy) and Ronnie Mann (Barbara); two grandsons; two granddaughters; four great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 11:00 A.M., in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with Pastor Phillip Vaughn officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., at Greenlawn Funeral Home 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, the day of the service.
