Obituary of Margaret Lucille Brown Burkett

WEST COLUMBIA—Margaret Lucille Brown Burkett 75, of West Columbia went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 21, 2013. Born in Darlington on March 6, 1938; the eldest daughter of the late Curtis William and Ethel Lucille Brown. She was a lifelong resident of Columbia and a member of Northside Baptist Church. Ms. Burkett retired from Kmart Corporation as a Human Resource Manager, after 34 years of employment. She enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing. She will always be remembered as a gentle and caring person who left a legacy of unconditional love for her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Gail Brazell (Ronnie), Keith Burkett (Cindy) and Sherry Salak (Chip); four grandchildren, Mandy Lastinger (BJ), Brittany Hall (Roy), Kaitlyn Salak and Candyce Slice; six great-grandchildren, Kailey and Bella Lastinger, Emory, Hayden, Karsen and Rossie Hall; sisters, Sherrell Aaron (Joe), Barbara Murphy (Joe) and Karen Brown. The children wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff NHC Lexington, Caris and Tri-County Hospice for the compassionate care provided for their mother. A service celebrating her life will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 12 noon at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Pastor Steve Allen will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11-12 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens.
