Obituary of Larry E. Kirkwood

WEST COLUMBIA-Funeral service for Larry E. Kirkwood, 68, of West Columbia, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Pastor Randy Moore will officiate. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the funeral home. Mr. Kirkwood died Thursday, October 24, 2013. Born in Falls Creek, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Eugene and Wanda Keck Kirkwood. He proudly served his county in the United States Marine Corp. He had retired from the Columbia Fire Department after 30 years of loyal service. Mr. Kirkwood was a member of the Carolina Woodcarvers Association and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Carolyn Poole Kirkwood of West Columbia; son, Andy Kirkwood and wife, Dawn of West Columbia; two grandchildren, Cody Kirkwood and wife, Alania of Irmo and Conner Kirkwood of West Columbia; sisters, Gail Kirkwood Spinda and Judy Kirkwood Burkey; and brother, Dale Kirkwood. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Chad Alan Kirkwood.
