Obituary of Douglas Allen Pinkston

LEXINGTON—Funeral services for Douglas Allen Pinkston, 61 of Lexington, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Palmetto Church of Christ. Officiating will be Minister Mike Hollis. Burial will be private. Pallbearers will be Vernon Smith, David Mitchell, Tabb Meade, Mark Ping, Chip Holton and Robert McKie. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Pinkston, Sid Lanier, David Carpenter, Jeff Baker, Wayne Caughman, Robert Hook, Dickson Toroitich, and Hugh Caldwell. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. In lieu of flowers send memorials payable to Palmetto Church of Christ, Honduras Mission Fund, 7000 Nursery Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Mr. Pinkston died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 24, 2013. Born in Albemarle, NC, he was a son of the late Cecil and Millie Burton Pinkston. He was a loyal member of Palmetto Church of Christ and attended David Lipscomb College. Doug was a cancer survivor for over 11 years even when they gave him only six months to live. He was a fighter during this time and always had a positive outlook on life. Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, but most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends. Doug will be dearly missed. Surviving are his daughters, Kelly Pinkston Edwards (Chris) of Lexington and Kimberly Pinkston Parker (Jason) of Nashville, TN; adopted son, Dickson Toroitich of Kenya, Africa; grandchildren, Caroline and Carly Edwards; brother, Tim Pinkston (Lynette) of Oak Island, NC; sister-in-law, Susan Pinkston of Winston-Salem, NC. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Claudia Cushen Pinkston and brother, Steve Pinkston.
