Obituary of Milton Oren Fletcher

CAYCE-Funeral service for Milton Oren Fletcher, 59, of Cayce, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Cayce United Methodist Church. Pastor Joseph James will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1428 B Orchard Lake Drive, Charlotte, NC 28270. Mr. Fletcher died Thursday, November 21, 2013. Born in Cayce, SC, he was the son of Oren S. Fletcher and the late Jacqueline Fleming Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher was a 1972 graduate of Airport High School, and received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1976 and a Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering in 1982 both degrees are from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Fletcher joined the South Carolina Department of Transportation in 1977 as a civil engineering associate 1 in the Lexington Construction office. He transferred in 1978 to the Office of Materials & Research as a research coordinator. He was promoted to Bituminous Materials Engineer in 1980 and to State Materials Engineer in 1997. He was promoted to Materials and Research Engineer in July 2000 where he was responsible for administering the operations of the Department's Office of Materials & Research in Columbia and the three District Laboratories in Greenville, Florence and Charleston. He remained in this position until his retirement on May 16, 2013. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in South Carolina and served on the AASHTO Subcommittee on Materials, the AASHTO Research Advisory Committee, the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists; and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Mr. Fletcher was an assistant scout master, and enjoyed golf, tennis and youth soccer. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda L. Fletcher; his son, Blake Fletcher both of Cayce; and his father and step-mother, Oren S. Fletcher (Joann) of Orangeburg; and brother, William Fletcher of Cayce.
