Obituary of Gloria H. Lucas

WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral service for Gloria H. Lucas, 87, of West Columbia, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Red Bank Baptist Church. Reverend Butch Powell, Reverend Jimmy Walker and Reverend Astor L. Jacobs, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2-3 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073 will be assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Red Bank Baptist Church, 120 Community Drive, Lexington, SC 29073. Mrs. Lucas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 surrounded by her family at Agape Hospice House. Born in Bearville, PA, she was a daughter of the late William Christian Harsh and Anna Richwine Harsh. She was an area resident since 1945 formerly of Lancaster, PA and a member of Red Bank Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Elizabeth McDaniel Chapter. Gloria retired from S.C. State Credit Union after 15 years of service. She also managed several PXs at Ft. Jackson for over 18 years. Surviving are her children, William C. "Bill" Lucas (Gail) of Columbia, Beverly Wilbur (Steve) of Gaston and Debbie Lee of West Columbia; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; sister, Edith Kauffman of Columbia, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty years, John Edward Lucas; sisters, Ruth Sandoe and Anna Harsh; brother, William C. Harsh, Jr.; step-mother, Mary Weaver Harsh and two grandchildren. A special thanks to all of her in-home caregivers, the staff at Agape @ Kathwood Assisted Living, and the Agape Hospice House for their loving care of our mother.
