Obituary of Iris Alberta Pope

COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Iris Alberta Pope, 82, of Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC 29169. Reverend Walter Parham will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Pope, beloved wife of the late James Henry Pope, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2103. Born in Grays, SC, she was a daughter of the late Grover Lee Thomas and Juanita Tuten Thomas. After her husband's death in 1956, "Berta" and her three children moved to the Columbia area, where they were raised in a loving home. Surviving are daughters, Iris D. Hallman and Nancy P. Anderson; son, James Lee "Jim" Pope; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Duncan and Mary Smith; brother, Charlie Thomas (Marilyn). Those who preceded her in death, husband, James Henry Pope; infant sister, Earline Thomas; son-in-law, Charles E. Anderson, brothers-in-law, Leon Duncan and Pat Smith.
