Obituary of Michael Clarence Haygood

Michael Clarence Haygood, 67, of Horrell Hill, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Palmetto Health Richland. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Morrell Haygood; daughter, Kathleen Michelle Austin (Jeff); son Michael Wade Haygood; grandchildren, Brittany Haygood Dennis (B.J.), Tyler, Tanner and Anna Austin and Hunter Haygood and great grandson, Wyatt Dennis; sister, Shirley Smith (Frank); sister-in-law, Frankie Bedell Haygood; stepmother, Glenna Villella, step brother, Bill Villella as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. Haygood and Ruth Haygood Collins; and his best friend and brother, Danny Haygood. Mike spent most of his days hunting with his family and friends, flounder fishing with Mary at their peaceful second home at Pawleys Island and playing golf with his "golf buddies." His best times, however, were spent with his children and grandchildren. Mike was a graduate of Lower Richland High School, and was a member of the Air National Guard for six years. He had been in the printing business for 47 years, and was the proprietor of Freedom Printing for 17 of those years. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Palmetto Health Richland ICU for the diligence and kindness they shared with Mike. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 with Pastor Joe Stines officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
