Obituary of Jane Frances Howell Bruce

Jane Frances (McMichael) Howell Bruce, 90, of West Columbia, went to be with her heavenly Father Sunday, December 15, 2013, at NHC Healthcare of Lexington. Born Saturday, November 10, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Louis Vernon McMichael, Sr., and Myrtle (Vining) McMichael. Mrs. Howell had attended Grohl's Business College and was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church. In 1941, she worked for Southern Bell and handled the switch boards during and after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Mrs. Howell had worked as a substitute teacher for 15 years with the Richland 2 School District, but spent most her working life in the banking industry. She worked for C&S Bank in Savannah, GA and Banker's Trust locally until her retirement. Following her retirement Mrs. Howell worked at Belk in the gift wrapping department. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of more than 58 years, Charles T. Howell; and three siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Howell Morrow (Steve); brother, Louis V. McMichael, Jr.; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers that assisted Mrs. Howell during her illness. Most of all, they would like to thank Amy whom Mrs. Howell adored greatly. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. (Noon), on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with Reverend Joe Copeland officiating. The interment will be private and held at a later date. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to either Cassie's Castle, 117 Barcelona Drive, Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411; or to NHC HealthCare of Lexington, Resident Activity Fund, 2993 Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, SC 29169.
