How ironic for Bill to pass at the time of great expectations for the new year - then again, how perfect. I will miss his always smiling face, friendly attitude, and helpful nature around the docks and on the lake.

Randy and I were just shocked to hear about Bill. Please know that although we'll be out of town on Thursday, our thoughts and prayers are with you all, Rhonda, AJ, Dean and the rest of the friends and family. Randy and Bill practically lived together down on the river in search of the elusive striped bass. I'm sure we have some photographs I can share when we get home that would bring back all those wonderful memories. Bill was a special guy and we all loved him!

Rhonda, A.J., Dean, Peggy and Sue: Your family has always been so kind to embrace me and include me in your events when my own family was not near. I didn't know Bill well but I had the sense that he was just that type of man - kind, compassionate and generous. Know that he lives on in all of you! I'm glad I had the opportunity to cross his path in this life and count myself lucky to call you all friends. Let me know if I can be of any service, you are in my heart. Cathy Berger

I worked with Bill for many years at General Services but had not seen him for 20 years or so. Then I ran into him at a concert in North Carolina about a year and a half ago. It was like old times almost immediately. I can honestly say that I have never met a person who was more pleasant and friendly to be around than Bill.

Bill was one of the first people to welcome us to the sailing club, and we loved him immediately. He had a wonderful smile and a big heart. He helped others in many ways. He is truly a man that I can say we were the better for knowing. We are blessed to call him a friend. Bill will be missed greatly by us and by so many others. I am also proud to know his son and daughter that he thought so much of, and they have done a great job through such a difficult time, I know Bill has nothing but pride in them. God bless all of you.

Rhonda, we cannot tell you how sad we were this morning to hear about Bill. We will keep you, AJ and Dean in my prayers. I remember when Bill starting working with state government so many years ago. We were all young, like family and grew up together. We had a great time learning together, especially when the Voter Registration System was getting its start. "Error Batch" was one of our favorite terms when things were not going as planned. Another wonderful memory of Bill was his generosity. We still have the stained glass piece Bill made for us of the couple dancing. It hangs in our hall and I have shown it to so many people. Bill was so talented and such a special person. I know you and your family will miss him, but your memories will always be in your heart. As my memories of him will be. I can see Bill looking down from above and smiling....Always, Louise and Dan Sherrill

We are so very sorry about Bill's passing! He was a great guy to know and we enjoyed his friendship for many years. He loved sailing, but his greatest love was for his children, AJ and Dean. We know y'all will miss him terribly. He is in a better place, but it takes loved ones a long time to adjust to the loss. Bless all of you and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers in these sad days.

I cannot express in words the feelings I have at the loss of Bill. He was always like a brother to me and a very close friend. He was very supportive of the work we were doing to build sailing on Lake Murray though the Lake Murray Yacht Racing Association and he shared our love for sailing with others. He was also a great ambassador of sailing for the sailors at Windward Point Yacht Club. But most of all he was a loving father to AJ and Dean. He will be missed by the whole Bushardt family - Marianne, Jody, Patsy and Michelle. He truly made the world a better place. I wish him fair winds and following seas.

I went to AC Flora with Bill! He was the sweetest, funniest boy! He wrote in my annual about the fact I had so many colors of contact lens that one day I was going to come to school with two differnet colored eyes!! I am so saddened by the news of his passing, please accept my condolences and know that his family is in my prayers! It sounds as though he had a wonderful life and for that you must be so thankful!

It was with great sadness that I read of Bill's Passing. As I read his obituary, a flood of good memories came back. It seemed that Bill was always involved in some sort of mishap or joke whether fishing, cooking, or hunting. Some examples: Bobs broken nose while erecting a deer stand, fish bones dumped in Danny's clothes bag after a fish fry, taking his first deer home in a grocery bag(it was so small Bob said he held it with one hand while Bill skinned it), the scope cut over his eyebrow when he fired his 30.06...Bill was always willing to help with a project and was a great listener to our problems. I will always have good memories of times shared with Bill. Russell Oswald.

When I was fresh out of college and looking for work, I applied at the South Carolina Budget and Control Board and a few weeks later, I got a letter from Mr. Bill Grant asking me to come in for an interview. 11 years later, I am still a state employee and I owe it all to him giving me a chance, based mostly only a senior project I had to show him on a 3.5 inch floppy. I am grateful for him giving me a chance and have fond memories of working for him. He shared my love of my music and we used to lend each other CDs that we thought the other one may not have heard. I specifically remember Bill introducing me to the great JJ Cale. I left the Budget and Control Board last year for another opportunity, but up until them Bill was still working 3 cubes down from me and I imagine if I were still there, that cubicle would seem rather empty. I would at least have one less person to talk about music with. He talked often about Rhonda, Dean and AJ and I can't imagine what the 3 of them are going for. The Grant family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Thoughts and prayers to Rhonda, Dean and AJ. I still think of Bill with much fondness and high regard, 25 years after we worked together. His love for his family was one of the first things you learned about Bill, quickly followed by his quick wit and keen intellect. I am so sorry for your love, Cara Presseau

Bill, you are not gone because you are all over my heart now and forever. You were my best bud. For 11 years, we had a very full and active friendship. You know I love ya, and I know you loved me. What a gem you were in my life. What a dear and special friend you were to me. My life is truly richer because of our friendship. You were a great, great man who enjoyed the simplest of things. I hope you are on a sailboat somewhere, painting watercolors, and listening to your favorite songs. I hope you are shouting out those song lyrics over and over like you always used to do. What special moments we shared. You were my soul brother, and I love you with all of my heart. I miss you so much, and I love you so, so much, my special friend. You were a wonderful man who lit up a room with warmth, kindness, fun, and laughter. You spoiled me with great friendship that will just never be replaced. If you can reach out to me, I hope that you do. Give me a sign, Bill. Just give me a sign. I hope I figure out how to make it without you. You were my best bud. I love you so much. Hope I see you again.
Bill knew the little things in life were the big things, and he appreciated every moment. He loved his family and his friends. He loved his kids. He was a giving soul and a gem in my world. I will miss this man for the rest of my life, my dear friend. I love you, Bill Grant.
John 14:2 - In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. We worked together at DSS and became close, but as usual did not keep in touch once he left. One of the best memories I have is when Bill took us out on his sail boat. I had never been on a sail boat before and it was an experience that I will never forget. His eyes would light up when he talked about his kids and sailing. He was so proud of both of you. May you find God's peace thru this time.
