Obituary of William Parker Murphy

William "Bill" Parker Murphy, 81, of Columbia entered in to rest, Saturday, January 4, 2014 at The Heritage at Lowman, Chapin SC. Born Wednesday, October 5, 1932 in Richmond, VA, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Estelle (Riddle) Murphy. He was a graduate of Dreher High School and also attended the University of South Carolina. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a life member of the VFW Post 10420, Murrells Inlet. Bill was a 36 year member of the American Legion, past post commander and district commander in South Carolina. He also started and spearheaded the Irish Children's Beach Weekend for many years. He is survived by Eddy Mae Murphy, of Columbia; daughter, Laura Murphy, of Greenville; son, John Murphy (Susan), of Grayson, GA; two grandchildren, Neal (Allison) Murphy, of Lilburn, GA, and Keri Murphy, of Grayson. He is also survived by three grand dogs, Jessi, Zoey and Banks. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at The Heritage at Lowman Wellness Center Chapel, 2101 Dutch Fork Road, Chapin, SC 29036, with Pastor Fred Suhr officiating.
