Obituary of Thomas J. Barras

COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Thomas J. Barras, 88, of Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with military honors. The family will greet friends from 12-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 will be assisting the family. Mr. Barras, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014, born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, he was the son of the late, Bruce Overby and Rose Barras. He proudly served his country first in the United States Navy then the United States Army for well over 20 years. Mr. Barras was an auto mechanic by trade in that he worked for White's Home and Auto for many years. He later worked for B. & N. Garage. Mr. Barras was an avid softball player with the companies he worked for and Recreational Leagues. Some of his favorite past-times were playing softball with his children and fishing. Surviving are his daughters, Rosemary Barras, Patricia Painter, Cathy Gladden (Wayne), Wanda Crosby, Donna C. Barras and Kristeen Marie Mason; sons, Steve Blitchington (Brenda) and David Hutto; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; as well as a number of loving nieces and nephews.
