Obituary of Betty S. Chamberlin

COLUMBIA-Funeral service for Betty S. Chamberlin, 85, of Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Reverend Stephen Gaither of Windson United Methodist and Reverend Tony Rowell of Beulah United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Rogers Memorial ARP, 1820 Eden Terrace, Rock Hill, SC 29730. Mrs. Chamberlin passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014. Born November 6, 1928 in LaPrairie, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late Ralph McKeinley Sawin and Lula Batoffer Sawin. She attended Windsor United Methodist Church and was a former member of Rogers Memorial ARP church in Rock Hill, SC. She was a member of the Never Grow Old Club in Rock Hill and Order of the Eastern Star Fort Jackson Chapter #253. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Chamberlin was an avid golfer and was a past member of Fort Jackson Golf Course, Columbia, SC, Augusta Golf Course, Augusta, Ill and Quincy Country Club, Quincy, Ill. She volunteered several years at the D.A. Weibring ARC Charity Golf and had honor to meet Professional golfers, Payne Stewart, Calvin Peete and Peter Jacobsen. She is survived by sons, Gary Cornell (Laura) of Lexington, SC and Jeffery Cornell of Camp Point, IL; five grandchildren, Michelle Cornell, William Cornell, Christopher Cornell, Brandon Cornell and Lindsay Cornell; one great-granddaughter, Lily Cornell; and sister, Dorothy S. Hartman of Abilene,KS; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herman Edward Cornell and second husband, Dr. Frank Chamberlin; and son, Ronald Edward Cornell and six brothers, Isaac Sawin, Francis Sawin, Kenneth Sawin, Ralph Sawin, Jim Sawin and Omer Sawin.
