Obituary of Ruth Smith Windham

COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Ruth Smith Windham, 77, of Columbia, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Rehoboth United Methodist Church. Reverend Doug Benton will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Rehoboth United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Christian Life Center at Rehoboth United Methodist Church. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 will be assisting the family. Mrs. Windham, beloved wife of Franklin Delano "Gabby" Windham, Sr., passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late L.W. Smith, Jr. and Ruth Tucker Smith. She was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Dentsville High School. She was a lifetime member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church and a dedicated Christian. She was very active and loved her church with all her heart, serving on numerous committees throughout her life and was Past "Woman of the Year" of the United Methodist Women. She was owner of the former Head Masters Hair Salon. Ruth was an avid Gamecock and Citadel Fan and loved to travel to the beach and the mountains. She loved her family dearly and cherished her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving in addition to her loving husband of 59 years, Franklin Delano "Gabby" Windham, Sr.; children, Donna Windham Dorner (Ralph) of Kennesaw, GA, Tracy Windham Corn (Randy, Sr.) of Blythewood, Delano "Bubba" Windham, Jr. of Columbia, Bridgette Windham Branson (Ray) of Columbia; grandchildren, David Dorner (Kinsy), Joshua Dorner (Stacey), Randy Corn, Jr. (Kerri), James Corn (Kim), Trae Windham, Dane Windham and Abby Branson; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Jane Moore (Bobby), L. W. Smith III (Jan) and Henry Smith (Patsy); along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, J. B. Smith and sister-in-law, Nancy Smith.
