Obituary of Bernard Thomas Reiser

WEST COLUMBIA-Bernard Thomas Reiser (Tom), 72, of West Columbia passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 with his family at his side. He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on August 6, 1941, to the late Bernard Francis and Ruth McCarty Reiser and received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Gannon University in 1963. After serving in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, Tom worked as an engineer with Allied Signal for 37 years. He was an active Member and Elder of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed golfing, working in the yard, spending time with his family, and South Carolina athletics. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Janice Givens Reiser; daughter Kelly Reiser Boone (Kelly) of Raleigh; son Bernard Thomas Reiser, Jr. of Washington DC; sister Mary Kaye Nurthen (Jere) of Chandler, Arizona; grandchildren Davis and Trevor Boone; and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister Ann Amelia Baer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 11am, at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, 530 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210. A visitation reception will follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church Rise Up and Build Fund. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC 29169 will be assisting the family.
